May 1st and 2nd marked the days for the Lebanese Swimming (short course) Championships- Winter 2013. I was not planning on participating in it this year as I was preparing for my finals, but something inside me could not rest and kept telling me to go and do what I love most in life…swim.
I only swam three races. The three gold medals that I won were very nice but the times I did were what mattered really to me. I was able to do my personal best with a new Lebanese record time in the 50 m free, 27.65, actually it was the best female time in the whole championship and in all age categories. My second race was the 800 m free, a good solid time but not my personal best, also the best overall female time for this event. My third and final race was the 100 m free, also a personal best of 1.00.74, a good time but I was hoping to go below the 1m barrier, the Lebanese current record is 1.00.61 so I just missed it.
Championships are physically and mentally hard on every swimmer, but with every championship we learn new things, we experience new situations and we make new friends. I consider myself lucky to be able to participate in so many meets locally and internationally, and will be looking forward and training hard for the upcoming international events this summer.
Now, and as the championship is over, i can concentrate on my studies. Congratulations to all the swimmers who participated, and good luck to all those sitting for their exams!
