What you eat on the day of your race should be well-thought out as it will impact your performance greatly.
Instabeat gives you a few tips on how to pack smartly for such a day:
1-Do not skip breakfast. whether your race is in the morning or later in the afternoon, you should definitely have breakfast. If your race is in less than 3 hours, have a light breakfast. If it is later in the day, you can add a few nourishing items to your menu. Typical good breakfasts would include: oatmeal with skimmed milk, etc…
2-Don’t forget your drinks. Pack water, sports drinks or frech fruit juices.
3-Don’t pack high-fiber food. Depending on every person, fiber can be tolerated or not. Don’t risk this on race day.
4-Pack more than you need, just in case. You should make sure that you don’t run out of food during the day. Worse comes to worse, you can share whatever is left with the rest of the team!
5-Pack various items: vegetables, fruits, grains and high quality protein. If you want to properly refuel, you should have an item for every need.
6-Plan for temperature change. It might not be cool where you will be stocking your food. makes sure you have a cooler or another item of that sort.
